Requirements for precision injection molds

Table of Content [Hide]

Precision injection molds are key tools for producing high-quality and high-precision plastic products. With the continuous updating of technology, modern industry has increasingly strict requirements for plastic products. Precision injection molds must follow a series of strict standards in the design, manufacturing, assembly, and use process.

    Design requirements

High precision and high stability: Mold design must meet the dimensional accuracy requirements of the product, usually requiring an accuracy of micrometers. Injection molded plastic products require an accuracy of 0.01mm-0.05mm. This requires full consideration of factors such as material shrinkage, machining accuracy, and assembly accuracy during the design process.

Optimized flow channel design: The design of the pouring system directly affects the flow state of plastics and the quality of products. CAE analysis software needs to be used to simulate the flow channel, ensuring that the plastic melt is evenly filled in the mold cavity and avoiding defects such as bubbles and weld lines.

Efficient cooling system: The design of the cooling system affects production efficiency and product quality. It is necessary to layout the cooling circuit reasonably according to the structure and size of the product, achieve fast and uniform cooling, and reduce the molding cycle.

Reasonable demolding mechanism: For complex products, it is necessary to design various demolding mechanisms, such as inclined top, core pulling, gas assisted demolding, etc., to ensure smooth demolding of the product without cracking or deformation.

    Material requirements

High quality mold steel: Choose high-quality mold steel such as S136, H13, NAK80, etc., which have good strength, hardness, wear resistance, and polishing performance.

Surface treatment: According to the requirements of the product, surface treatments such as nitriding and chrome plating are applied to the mold cavity to improve its hardness and corrosion resistance, and extend its service life.

    Processing and manufacturing requirements

Precision machining equipment: Use high-precision machining equipment such as precision grinders, curve grinders, CNC machine tools, slow wire cutting, EDM machines, etc. to ensure machining accuracy and surface quality.

Fine processing technology: Adopting high-precision machining methods such as precision grinding, polishing, ultra precision machining, etc., to achieve the required dimensional accuracy and surface roughness.

Strict quality control: During the processing, real-time monitoring and detection of key dimensions and parts are required, using high-precision detection equipment such as coordinate measuring instruments to ensure that each part meets the design requirements.

    Assembly and adjustment requirements

Precision assembly: The assembly of molds requires experienced technicians to ensure that the fit clearance and accuracy of each component meet the design requirements, and that the moving parts operate smoothly without jamming.

Trial molding and optimization: After the mold assembly is completed, it is necessary to conduct a trial mold to test the various properties of the mold. Based on the trial mold results, the mold should be adjusted and optimized to ensure stability and product quality during mass production.

    Usage and maintenance requirements

Correct use of parameters: In injection molding production, it is necessary to set appropriate injection molding process parameters based on the characteristics of the product and material, such as temperature, pressure, speed, cooling time, etc.

Regular maintenance and upkeep: Regularly clean and maintain the mold, such as removing residues, checking wear and tear, applying rust proof oil, etc., to prevent mold damage and quality issues.

Safe operation: Strictly follow the operating procedures to prevent mold damage or production accidents caused by misoperation.

    Other requirements

    • Durability: Precision injection molds should have high durability to withstand repeated injection cycles.

    • Easy to maintain: The mold should be designed to be easy to maintain and repair to minimize downtime.

    • Cost effectiveness: Although the manufacturing cost of precision injection molds may be high, they can produce high-value parts, thereby reducing overall production costs.
