There are usually five types of plastic manufacturing: injection molding, reaction injection molding, thermoforming, extrusion blow molding and compression molding.
Injection molding is a process in which the plastic melted by the injection machine enters the mold under the thrust of the plunger or screw, and is cooled to obtain the product.
Reaction injection molding
The reaction injection molding (RIM) is to mix two reactive liquid materials with chemical reactions into a ramming flow and quickly inject them into the mold cavity for reaction molding.
It is a kind of vacuum molding. Plastic plates or sheets are placed on a die-casting mold, and the material is softened by heating, so that the plastic material is stretched on the surface of the mold, and vacuum pressure is used to shape it.
Extrusion blow molding
It is often used to make thin-walled and inexpensive containers, such as disposable water cups or water bottles. The softened plastic forms a parison, which is placed in a two-piece open-close mold. After the mold is closed, compressed air is blown into the parison to inflate it until it all adheres to the cavity wall. After the mold wall is water-cooled, the plastic part is quickly solidified, and then demolded to obtain the finished product.
It is a process in which the material is preheated and placed in the cavity of the die-casting mold, and the plastic is cured by pressure and heat after the mold is closed. This molding method is suitable for the production of plastic buttons, gaskets, O-rings, or other soft, easily plastic, thin-walled products.

Quantity and cost: it is the key to find the balance between output and cost-effectiveness. For example, injection molding are usually economical in mass production but the opposite in prototyping because it requires high upfront cost.
